Sometimes even the big-stick-carriers make grave errors and have to be corrected; and if they won’t listen to polite speech, then sometimes impolite speech is necessary.

Division is not an aberration, but the central reality of Christian life, and our most persistent scandal. But is it, in fact, a “scandal”? Is there a way of thinking about the divisions not as wounds, but as individual facets of the same gem?

When denominations are divided over questions like, “What is a man?”, “What is a woman?”, “What is marriage?”, it is hard to see what kind of communion is possible. What kind of common worship can we have when we cannot say with certainty what sort of human the other one is?
