Jesus is made available to all. If you knew a time and place where heaven was going to touch the earth like that, and you knew that anyone could come and touch and hold that heaven, touch and hold it forever, wouldn’t it be the most obvious act of generosity to point that out?

“Basically good people” make few demands, maybe none, because their goodness is basic – it’s just getting started. Jesus means his goodness to go into the life of God Himself.

What if there were a quiet empire, secret agents of the Resurrected Man, a quiet empire that muddled along, often just below the radar, amid the rising and falling of louder empires, of which the USA will certainly someday be one, proposing a countercultural message which over time has led to the end of slavery, rights for all, and the emergence of modern science.

The cost is Everything but we receive Everything, too. We receive the life of Christ Himself, the “pearl of great price,” and we can receive it every day if we want. Our lives, for that reason, always have meaning and purpose. We are delivered from nearly all confusion about what the right thing to do is.

What if we could, quite literally, have His Jesus’ life in our hands every day, to use, and think with, and work with. Isn’t it possible that, over time, that would make us better, stronger, more powerful, more holy?

The disciples have seen Jesus do incredible works of power, they believe He has the words of eternal life, and now, when He says He is leaving, they don’t even want to know what the plan is?

If Jesus isn’t really present in the Eucharist, then hell is all there is.

Why isn’t exorcism a sacrament? Because the sacraments are stronger than exorcism.
