Crisis is a crucial moment, when things can begin to shift. Whether things shift in ways that increase the danger, or open prospects for hope, however, depends entirely on what we bring to those crucial moments. How about we bring Jesus?

All people, if they are really paying attention, have a very specific craving for something else, something that cannot die, something that lives, even in the midst of terrible pain and suffering, and something that will endure even when all the pain and suffering is ended – and pain and suffering will end, because everything in this world ends.

God wanted a relationship with Job, as He wants a relationship with us all. We are persons, not furniture, so He left Job free – and vulnerable.

God did not need to create the universe. God isn’t any greater because we exist, or because the universe exists. He created the universe simply as a vessel to pour His love into, and to be such a universe all its people have to be free. A universe made as a vessel for divine love cannot have people unable to say no.

Is there any love or loyalty to Him that is too much?
